A vertical window air conditioner is built for the window a standard window wall unit cannot use: a horizontal sliding window, the kind found in apartments, townhouses, granny flats and rentals. The TECO Vertical Skinny is 820 mm high and 415 mm wide, and the window kit in the box fits most horizontal sliding windows between 90 cm and 145 cm high. It sits in the opening with no outdoor unit, no wall cut-out and no refrigerant pipework, so it suits rented homes, temporary accommodation and rooms where a split system is not an option.
There are three models, all with an inverter compressor and a wireless remote: the 2.6 kW and 3.5 kW cool-only units, and the 3.1 kW reverse cycle unit, rated at 3.08 kW cooling and 3.22 kW heating. The 3.1 kW and 3.5 kW models also have Wi-Fi control. All three come with the window installation kit, a child lock, a follow-me mode that reads the temperature at the remote, and a self-clean function that dries the coil after use. No. The whole unit sits in the window opening, with the condenser side facing out, so there is no outdoor unit, no wall penetration and no refrigerant pipework. That is why it suits rentals and strata buildings where external units are not allowed.
The 3.5 kW cool-only and the 3 kW reverse cycle suit larger bedrooms and small living areas, with the reverse cycle model adding 3.22 kW of heating for winter. All are inverter models with a 2-year warranty.
